About Us

▍About Musicophilia

Musicophilia.net is an independent cultural platform devoted to writing about music. We founded it for a simple reason: an untimely, stubborn fascination with music—and the belief that it deserves to be listened to with care, written about with care, and thought about with care.

The word “Musicophilia” comes from the neurologist Oliver Sacks’s book of the same name. There, music is not merely an art form; it is a resonance of memory, body, and feeling—a steady glimmer in the half-light of life. This understanding shapes both our stance and our method: to let language stay close to the grain of sound while honoring music’s place in lived experience and history. We refuse to reduce music to entertainment and consumption, just as we refuse to turn writing into empty technophilia.

We will continue to introduce and translate high-quality music essays, criticism, and reflections, while inviting Chinese-language writers to contribute original work. Our focus spans classical, jazz, rock, and contemporary/experimental music, as well as the cultural contexts behind recording technologies, the record industry, instruments, and stage practice. Around these concerns, we will gradually build a set of columns—“Music and Its Critics,  “The Literature of Listening”, “Soundtracks of History”, “Classical Voices”, “Stages & Scores”, and “Echoes on Screen” —so that together they form a map of knowledge in dialogue.

Our goal is to build, in Chinese, a reliable archive of music criticism: something that can be cited, taught, debated—and still read years from now. Music helps us recognize one another and stay connected to the world. May Musicophilia.net be a quiet, steady place for listening—where philia (love) is not decoration, but the reason to keep writing and to keep listening.

▍关于 Musicophilia 乐痴

Musicophilia.net(乐痴网)是一个以音乐写作为核心的独立文化平台。

▍Statement on the Ethical Use of AI in Translation

Musicophilia.net is committed to the ethical and high-quality dissemination of global music culture through translation. With the emergence of advanced AI language tools, we occasionally incorporate AI assistance into our workflow to improve efficiency and broaden access to content. However, we recognize that:Translation is not just a technical conversion of language, but an act of interpretation, judgment, and stylistic recreation. We therefore adhere to the following ethical principles in using AI tools:

  • AI serves only as a support tool; all translations undergo human editing, review, and contextual adjustment;
  • Any translation involving AI assistance is clearly marked to ensure transparency to readers and original authors;
  • We do not accept AI-generated texts as a replacement for human insight, especially in fields such as film criticism, literature, or cultural commentary;
  • All edited translations meet high standards of clarity, accuracy, tone, and contextual fidelity;
  • We welcome feedback from readers and original authors regarding the accuracy or usage of translated content.

Musicophilia.net believes in the responsible and creative use of AI as a supporting partner, not a substitute, and we remain committed to exploring the boundaries of authorship, translation ethics, and technological tools in the age of AI.

▍关于人工智能辅助翻译的伦理声明

Musicophilia.net始终致力于推动优质音乐文化的跨语种传播。随着人工智能语言工具的发展,我们在部分翻译工作中引入AI辅助,以提高效率并拓展内容来源。然而,我们深知:译文不仅仅是语言转换,更是理解、判断与风格的再创造。因此,Musicophilia.net对AI翻译的使用秉持如下原则:

  • AI仅作为工具,用于初步翻译或参考建议,所有最终译文都经人工校对与审订;
  • 所有AI协助参与的译文将注明生成方式,确保对读者与原作者的透明;
  • 拒绝将AI产出作为“替代人工”的文化内容,尤其在文学、评论、批评类文章中,始终强调人的介入与判断;
  • 在处理AI参与的译文时,我们将坚持风格一致、语义准确、语境得当的编辑标准;
  • 欢迎读者和原作者就任何内容的准确性与版权状况提出反馈。

我们相信,AI可以成为文化传播的助力,但不能取代对语言、历史与思想的细致体察。Musicophilia.net将持续探索AI时代下译者与工具之间的伦理边界与合作可能。
